IB&C News

At convention in Canberra It was announced that our current 2009-2010 Idea book and catalogue will now run until August 31st 2010. This will bring the Australian and New Zealand markets closer to the U.S, so we won't have to wait as long to get new products.
Stampin' Up! also announced that due to the extended catalogue dates, we will have 3 mini catalogues during this time, including new hostess only stamp sets.
So there's plenty of time to study the catalogue and make up your wish lists. You can even get part of your wish list for free by hosting your own workshop and earning hostess benefits.
Contact me for more information or to book your workshop.

Unconvention card swap

Another part of our "Unconvention" was a card swap. We had to make 20 identical cards, send them to the host and then we received back 20 different cards.
There was a twist - we had to work to the "unconvention" theme - something about our card had to be unconventional - mine is the unconventional use of a stamp set - Can you recognise which set I used to create this flower?
This is the tail and the leg of the bird from the "Good Friend" set
Card recipe:
Stamps: Good Friend
Cardstock: Whisper White, Summer Sun
DSP: Good morning sunshine
Ink: Ruby Red, Old Olive, Summer Sun
Adhesive: Snail, Crystal Effects
Other: Earth elements Brads

Unconvention

While many demonstrators were at convention in Canberra last month, a group of demonstrators decided to have an online 'Unconvention". It was a lot of fun with lots of projects, chats, swaps and we even had a virtual room mate at the virtual hotel. I made this fabric tote bag for my roomie. Here's a close up.

I used the bird from the 'Good Friend' stamp set and stamped it onto the fabric using Whisper White Craft Ink. I then embroidered around the image. I also used some 'Flower Brads' to embellish the bag.

Sock monkey!

I've been playing with my new sock monkey set (page 66) to make some birthday cards. This first one I made to match the sock monkey I made for my niece for her birthday. The second one I tried a different colour - Pretty in pink, Kraft and white.

This would be a great set to water colour - I need to clean up my craft room so I can find my Stampin' Up! water colour paper so I can give it a try.

Happy Easter

Here's a quick little thing to dress up some plain looking eggs this easter.

I've used the bird from the "Good Friend' set (which is one of the many new sets in the 2009 -2010 IB&C).
I stamped the bird in Certainly Celery, Rose Red, Ballet Blue, and Summer Sun. For the beak I used Only Orange.
Next step was cutting the birds out before using a Stampin' Dimensional to attach to a piece of Very Vanilla Tafeta ribbon which I had tied around some choclate easter eggs. Yum!

I did add some glitter on the wing of a few of the birds, but didn't want to end up with glittery chocolate - so I'll have to create another project with them in the next day or two, so stay tuned to see what I come up with.

Sale-A-Brating with markers only!

So what do you do when you don't have the colour ink pad you need? You grab the Stampin' Write marker instead. I'm not a big fan of the bold brights but for this layout I really needed Real Red to co-ordinate with this photo of Jade, my niece.
All of the stamped images (from sale-a-bration set Polka dot punches) were inked using the Real Red Stampin' Write marker. After inking the stamp with the marker, quickly huff or breath over it to re-moisten the ink and the turn over and stamp onto your cardstock.
The other thing I like about this layout is the On Board Alphabet - the chipboard J - I like how it has a slight suede look from a distance. To colour the J, I scribbled some marker on to the Stamp-a-ma-jig plastic template sheet (any plastic would work, you could use the box the stamps come in or even an old CD) and then with the sponge dauber picked up the ink and dabbed in a circular motion onto the chipboard and repeated until it was all covered.
Have you tried inking stamps with markers? What other techniques would you like me to show here or at a workshop?

Contact problems!

If you have been trying to contact me via the mobile number listed on the right - it has been temporarily disconnected, (apparently there's a new porting system). I can be contacted via my home number if you have an order form or business card with it on or otherwise send me an email at dmantolovic@yahoo.com.au as that is checked regularly through out the day.

Which bag was mine?

With the "back to school" thing happening at the moment, I thought it appropriate to share this bag tag with you all.
I used a 3M self laminating bag tag. Inside a placed a piece of Ginger Blossom designer series paper (page 18 summer mini catalogue) I love the colours in this range of papers and especially the dots! On the other side I have one of my Stampin' Up! business cards, but you could easily stamp a name or an inital.
To attach it to a bag (or in my case my scrap tote) I used some groovy guava stitched ribbon with a ribbon slide from a hodgepodge set. I also coloured a flower from the pretties kit using a ink pad and sponge dauber and tied this to the slide.
So now there's no mistaking which bag/tote belongs to me!

Sale-a-Bration - Valentine

A couple of quick Valentine projects

The heart on the little pouch/bag is from the FREE Polka Dot Punches SAB set. I also used the Scllop edge punch from the Summer mini catalogue.

This little chocolate valentine was made super fast. Punch two Scallop squares (Square Scallop punch is available in the summer mini). Stamp the 'with love' from the FREE Sale-A-Bration set 'Yummy', ink the edges of the scallop squares using a sponge dauber and attach to a chocolate. I used little square Dove chocolates.

There's still time to make some of these for your Valentine. Contact me to place your order and get your FREE Sale-A-Bration set (with orders over $100 before S&H)

Ahoy matey!

I've been playing with my 'Ahoy, Matey!' set. The pirate is great for watercolouring. I used the aqua painters with the inkpads (squish the pad before opening it and you will have a little pool of colour on the inside of the lid once it is opened) to colour him in. To make the window I used the 1 3/4" square punch twice to make a rectangle, I then used the mat pack and the paper piercer around the window. The scallop was made using the scallop edge punch and the 'Happy Birthday' is from the It's Your Birthday set

This next card is for a card swap I'm in. The theme is masculine cards. I seem to have problems with this theme so hence the kiddy card! I used some chunky glitter for the water. I stamped the top of the pirate on the inside of the card and the treasure map X on the envelopes - no more naked envelopes!

Colouring photos with Stampin' Pastels

Did you know you can use Stampin' Pastels to colour your black and white photos?

First of all have you photo printed in black or white ( I print my own pics at home on my Epson R310)
Next you need to spray the photo's surface with 'Workable Fixative' (This can be purchased from an artist supply shop)
Then using a sponge dauber, load up some pastel in your chosen colour, then dab in a circular motion of the area of the photo you wish to colour. You can play around with the intensity of the colour by going over certain areas. Then leave it overnight before using it in your project - You could apply a sealer over the photo if you prefer, though I didn't and the colour is staying.

In this layout I used some more Flower Fusion, Rose red, 1" double stitched ribbon, the scallop edge punch and the 'All Scallops' stamp set - all from the Summer mini.

I thought it would be easier to stamp the stamp from All Scallops and then punch, but I found it difficult to get the scallop & stamp even. I found it much easier to punch the scallop edge first, then use the Stamp-A-Ma-Jig to line up the stamp - let me know which way you find easier!
